
PAP Awards and Convention 2023
Emcee Singapore: Charmaine was privileged to have hosted the biennial PAP Awards and Convention 2023 attended by more than 1,000 party members, together with Chen Ji.
It was a significant event held under the theme “Charting. The. Path. Forward: Every. Voice. Counts.” It emphasized unity, fairness, and equality, showcasing the commitment of the party to moving forward as one.
The highlight of the event was the historic speech by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, announcing his decision to hand over leadership to Deputy Prime Minister Lawrence Wong before the next general election. This announcement marked a pivotal moment in Singapore’s political landscape.
After the opening address by Party Chairman Heng Swee Keat, three passionate individuals who have dedicated their time and efforts to serving.
First speaker was Hamid Razak, a consultant and an ex-Chief Resident in the specialty of Orthopaedic Surgery at Singapore General Hospital. He is also a Lee Kuan Yew Postgraduate Scholar with many accolades achieved under his belt. Most importantly, he translated all the achievements to serving his patients and residents alike with all his heart.
The next speaker was Chua Wei-Shan, a shining example of dedication, passion, and resilience. She is a remarkable woman, a trailblazer in her field, and a role model for aspiring individuals everywhere. She shared valuable insights on overcoming challenges as a caregiver to juggle other commitments and interest in life. The audience was inspired, enlightened, and motivated by her words.
The third speaker was Elmie Nekmat. He spent his time in NUS teaching and researching on the impact of digital media and technologies on individuals and communities whenever he is not on grounds meeting and helping residents. He keeps his energy and hopes alive and strong for greater women empowerment in society.
This was followed by the electrifying performance by Drum Tribe Singapore. The percussion group added an energetic and vibrant element to the event. They enhanced vibrancy with their pulsating original drum tracks with the use of technology on their bespoke drum consoles.
To commemorate LKY100, the Young PAP and Young NTUC have launched a book titled “Centennial Reflections: 100 Inspirations from Lee Kuan Yew”.
Lastly, the Party Awards segment recognized and celebrated individuals who had demonstrated exceptional service and commitment to the party, further highlighting the contributions of dedicated members. The Party Awards segment covered many categories including awards for Meritorious Service, Commendation, Dedicated Service (Star) and Long Service.
